The entrance hall of this new build house was designed as a large room rather than a passing through space. A window provides a view to the courtyard in the middle of the house and a pivot door opens to the drawing room. A staircase to the first floor has a lay-light at high level. The rug was commissioned from Ceadogan.
We wanted to create a warm atmosphere in this hall. The walls are Peignoir by Farrow & Ball and the console is by Soane. The deeper tone of the top of the console, a burgundy leather, is picked up by the woven stairs runner. The floor is newly laid chevron.
We added the arch in this space to define the two sections of the hall. The original boards were stained and the cornice was restored. The colour scheme for the room was taken from an Arts & Crafts style Donegal runner. The antique console from O’Sullivan Antiques balances the new pendant and table lamps.
This room links two sides of a newly built U-shaped house. A limestone floor runs from the entrance lobby. The windows look to a courtyard in the centre of the house. The ceiling has timber beams to soften the three metre high space and oak posts screen the lobby to the kitchen and boot room. We worked with some of the clients existing antiques such as a gilded mirror and antique table. The rug is by Luke Irwin.
The main rooms in this house open onto a central hall. We restored the original panelling and staircase. The paneling and carpet are a deep neutral colour to create a warm atmosphere. A pendant by Rose Uniacke compliments the angles in the ceiling plasterwork.
The aim here was to create an elegant space with minimal furnishing and warm materials. The sculptural pendant designed by Niamh Barry contrasts with the classical architectural detailing. The handmade glass in the windows filters and mottles the light.
The entrance hall leads to a double-height central hall, with all of the principal rooms opening onto the space. The sequence of arches was inspired by a Charles Oakley painting. The arch is used as a motif throughout the house and each one is simply detailed with a staff bead edge. A large rooflight with a laylight brings sunlight into the centre of the house.
